History
In 2005, Magnat Rolls, an Easthampton, Massachusetts-based manufacturer of precision rolls for the paper and plastic film industries, merged with Fairview Machine of Chicopee, Massachusetts, also an established manufacturer of process rollers. As part of the consolidation, the new company brought the engineering expertise, people and manufacturing resources of both firms together as a totally integrated operation under one roof at the 80,000 sq. ft. Chicopee facility.
Both companies have significant histories as roll manufacturers (see previous company histories below). Magnat-Fairview continues to specialize in calendering systems and roll products for the plastics and film, paper, nonwovens, and web handling and converting industries. Roll products still include precision coating rolls, heat transfer rolls, and other precision process rollers up to 500" long and 50" in diameter.
With expanded capabilities in both engineering and manufacturing, the Magnat-Fairview team stands ready to serve customers better than ever with unmatched quality and dedication.
Magnat Rolls History
Magnat Machinery & Pattern Corp. was originally located in Leeds, Massachusetts, and incorporated in 1947. During the early years, the firm served as a fabricating job shop. Over time, Magnat had become well known for its design and manufacturing of both rolls and machinery. That soon led to the creation of two business divisions. The company name was shortened to Magnat Corp. in 1963. Around the same time, a new manufacturing facility was constructed. Both businesses operated there until 1976 when the machinery business was relocated to Florence, Massachusetts.
In 1989, the business groups officially separated and Magnat Rolls became a separate company. Magnat Rolls has since grown to be one of the largest independent companies in the country devoted exclusively to the manufacture of engineered industrial rolls for the paper, plastics, converting, printing and packaging industries. In 2005 Fairview Machine merged with Magnat Rolls to form Magnat-Fairview. Today the new company is leveraging the strengths of both firms to design and build the industry's finest process rolls, along with today's most innovative calendering, laminating and embossing machinery.
Fairview Machine History
Fairview Machine was founded in 1955 in the small Western Massachusetts city of Chicopee as a small, machine shop serving local paper, textile and converting industries with precision roll products. Fairview's success in manufacturing quality rolls quickly led to the formation of a special roll division dedicated to expanding the company's expertise and capabilities in this area. By 1986, demand for the company's quality rolls had grown beyond New England and Fairview Machine's move to a new 35,000 sq. ft. facility. With the larger facility came the manufacturing and assembling of special purpose machinery. A new machinery products division was soon launched to serve a wide variety of industries, including electrical & electronics, medical (surgical & dental), automotive, and sporting goods. In 2001, Fairview 's facility expanded to over 80,000 sq. ft. to house growing sales, design, machining/manufacturing and assembly areas.
While Fairview continued to specialize in the design and manufacture of precision rolls, the custom machinery building business grew – in particular, the design and manufacture of precision calendering systems. In 2005 Fairview Machine merged with Magnat Rolls to form Magnat-Fairview. Today the new company is leveraging the strengths of both firms to design and build the industry's finest process rolls, along with today's most innovative calendering, laminating and embossing machinery.
